A Perfectly charming avant-garde vase! With its horizontal lines and spherical form, this is a classic example of early Swedish modernism. Made from pewter, it has a beautiful finish, and the matte winged handles give it the most splendid feeling. A few dings and scratches but the overall impression is lovely.

Approximately 5.5" H x 7 " W

Sylvia Stave (1908–1994) was a pioneering Swedish silversmith and designer renowned for her minimalist and functionalist creations during the 1930s. Her work, characterized by sleek lines and innovative forms, played a significant role in shaping Scandinavian design. Stave's breakthrough came in 1930 when she exhibited a pewter and ebony chessboard and an enamelled silver cask at the Stockholm Exhibition. At just 23 she was appointed artistic director at Hallbergs where she served until 1939, giving up her career to raise a family, thus making her work incredibly rare and collectible. The Swedish National Museum holds over 40 of her pieces, and today, Sylvia Stave is celebrated as a trailblazer - her work embodying the elegance and innovation of Swedish modernism.
