Decorated with blue glaze, modeled with stamped pattern. Signed Nils, HAK. Manufactured by Kähler. Chamotte—also known as ‘grog’, ‘firesand’ or “fireclay”—is calcined clay containing a high proportion of alumina and produces intense color and finish. With its deep turquoise color and herringbone design, these are classic Kähler!

6.5" Diameter x 4.5" H

Nils Kähler (1906–1979) was a fourth-generation member of the Kähler ceramics dynasty, founded in 1839 by Herman Kähler in Næstved. Deeply rooted in a tradition of craftsmanship and close collaboration with artists, the workshop rose to international prominence under Herman A. Kähler, whose progressive vision helped define Danish ceramic design in the early 20th century. In the 1940s Nils worked alongside his brother at the Kähler workshop, serving as artistic director and producing pieces marked simply “Nils” to the base. His work reflects a refined, modern sensibility grounded in the family’s legacy. The brothers parted ways in 1968, and the historic Kähler pottery closed its doors in 1974 but the incredible glory of their works remain.
