One of my most collectible designs, this gorgeous dish is functional and incredibly made, but that comes as no surprise to those who know the work of Tapio Wirkkala. The hammered pattern emulated the look of birch bark, giving this hard surface a softness that feels wonderful to the touch. The perfect size, not too small, not too big.

Tapio Wirkkala (1915 – 1985) was one of the most celebrated and multi-disciplinary designers of the 20th Century. From ketchup & vodka bottles to postage stamps, his designs traversed mediums and improved the lives of all who live with his work. Like all good Finns, he was obsessed with nature - leaves, shells, ice - he had a way of transforming hard materials into soft and wonderful objects. And to this day, his designs are amongst the most collectible as they are beautifully timeless.
