Beautiful works of functional Finnish design by the legendary Werner West. The "Hugging Chair" is an early example of the use of bent plywood, where the wooden back wraps the body and sits at just the right spot to rest your elbows, like a built-in armrest reminiscent of the Greek Klismos chair. Original dark stain on beech wood, with a forest green lacquered seat and inside back. There are many imperfections to these chairs, but in such a perfect way - the chips & fades, the nicks & scratches, are signs of an adventurous life. These were made for the ultra-chic restaurant Elite, Helsinki's most famous haven for artists, writers, and musicians.

Refinishing is an option, but I really do love them just the way they are. More photos are available upon request. The proportions of this chair are just great, and being practical Finns the design allows for the chair to rest upon a table by the arms while you sweep the floor. The slight dimple in the seat makes them extra comfortable. Genius.

Priced individually - I will sell as a 4-piece set upon request. More photos are available, please contact me for additional details.

West designed interiors for numerous public spaces such as the Parliament House, and the interior of the famous Helsinki restaurant Ravintola Elite.
